The Stories of the Two Decades
Ecobio has been innovating with its pioneering customers for as long as three
decades. Its most important achievements can be recorded through the success of its
customers. The history of environmental consulting can also be read in Ecobio's
assignments. Ecobio has twice been awarded a prize for its innovativeness.
The 2000s: life cycle assessment, environmental impact assessment, occupational health and safety systems
Our latest major challenge has been to develop environmental and occupational health
and safety systems for Aker Yards' shipyards at Turku, Rauma and Helsinki so that
they are ready for certification. The project implemented comprehensive development
work, which has had an impact on the working conditions of some 15,000 people.
Ecobio was responsible for project planning, training and preparation for
development.
At the turn of the millennium, we calculated the environmental impact of Metso
Paper's paper machine during its life cycle from womb to tomb. The result was a
versatile model for the assessment of environmental impacts, which was one of the
largest ever prepared in Finland.
At the same time, Ecobio developed a product environmental statement on product-
generated environmental impacts.
In recent years, Ecobio has also assisted in the assessment of environmental impacts
of several major harbor projects.
The 1990s: environmental reports and environmental systems
We implemented an ISO 14001 development project for an environmental
management system at Rautaruukki's steelworks at Raahe. In 1996, the steelworks at
Raahe was the second steelworks in the world to receive an environmental system
certificate and it was one of the largest industrial sites in Finland to do so.
As early as the beginning of the 1990s, we prepared an environmental report for
Neste. Such reports became common only in the mid-1990s.
The 1980s: waste management
One of our first innovations was to design building-specific waste management
systems as early as the end of the 1980s. Our customers were major insurance
companies.
